Reading Blogs and RSS Feeds Via PDF

Tabbloid PDF

HP has released Tabbloid, a free service for converting your favorite blogs and feeds into a single PDF file. While this idea is not entirely new — there’s a basic service or two around and Acrobat has had very simple capabilities for a while — HP has improved the existing with a free subscription system that’s simple to use and generates PDF files that are more likely to be useful and read.

When you visit the site, you manually enter the blogs and feeds you’d like to follow, and can choose from some popular pre-configured topics such as technology, business, politics and sports. Specify an email address how often you would like to receive your Tabbloid PDF, and then stand by for your own custom publication.

If you’d like to sign up for our PDF Blog, just copy the following address into your Tabbloid subscription:

HP has spent time on the formatting and layout of the final PDF output and it’s this many subscribers will like most. It comes out as a two-column magazine with a header and footer, and groups together all articles from each feed. All images and links from the original article are also included.

Unfortunately the most common use I see for Tabbloid is neatly turning feeds into paper. For commuters who don’t have a suitable electronic device, no doubt it’s a handy and reasonable way to keep up with one’s favorite online feeds. I just hope people don’t start printing feeds and then reading them a few meters away from a computer.

A word of warning. The service can be slow! The site has just been covered on Lifehacker and other sites so it may be struggling with the traffic spike.
