A couple of recent enquires from people new to our product asked whether Nitro PDF Professional can convert the new file formats used in Microsoft Office 2007. If you’re not familiar with these file types, Microsoft released an XML-based (Office Open XML) format specification some time back, which the company hopes to become an ISO standard. The relevance to Microsoft Office 2007 users is that these new file formats have replaced the old (.DOC, .XLS, .PPT) ones as the default formats.
One of the pains of upgrading to Office 2007 has been the fact that many Office users can’t view your files as older Office versions (2000/2003/XP) don’t open these files without a software update — that’s where converting to PDF can save the day and stop you having to respond to those common email replies that ask, ‘Can you resave it as an older version?’.
New Microsoft Office formats:
- .DOCX - Microsoft Word 2007
- .XLSX - Microsoft Excel 2007
- .PPTX - Microsoft PowerPoint 2007
So, to answer the question posed at the beginning: Yes, Nitro PDF Professional can convert DOCX, XLSX and PPTX files to PDF. Nitro Pro handles these file formats just the same as the older ones — drag and drop conversion, batch conversion, converting and combining files all work just as smoothly.
