“Do your PDFs work with Adobe Acrobat?”

We often get questions from customers asking for a comparison between Nitro PDF and Adobe Acrobat. One of the most regular questions is “Can PDFs created with Nitro PDF software be opened in Adobe Acrobat/Reader?”. The answer to that is a definite yes.

Whilst the PDF (Portable Document Format) specification has always been controlled by Adobe (until this year, when it was released to the ISO), they were kind enough to publish the specification for public consumption. What this means is that 3rd party developers are able to build software to create, display and manipulate PDF documents. Just about everything a developer needs to know about the PDF file format is contained within the wonderfully entertaining PDF Reference.

We’ve also ensured that any editing and markup you do in Nitro PDF software is compatible with Adobe Reader and Acrobat. So say you added some sticky notes and highlighted some text in Nitro PDF Professional, then sent that PDF off to your friend who only had the free Adobe Reader. They would see the sticky notes and highlights without looking any different from someone who did the same with Acrobat.
